ABOUT HONBU
Welcome to Honbu Karate School! We are a full-contact Kyokushin Karate school located at Tholisu Primary School in Umlazi. Our mission is to provide a safe and empowering environment for children in a community with high crime rates. We take pride in guiding kids off the streets, instilling discipline, motivation, and personal growth. Our achievements speak volumes. Within a year, we secured over 25 trophies in various tournaments. Notably, our students excelled at the Poland World Category event in Kielce, with four representatives chosen from our school. Our experienced instructors hold black belts and higher ranks, ensuring top-notch training. We've successfully promoted two members to black belt level.
Exciting plans lie ahead. We aim to participate in more tournaments, offer private classes, and engage in community-based projects outside of Karate. By hosting training programs during school holidays, we hope to attract more students and contribute positively to the community.
This is the way HONBU is written in japanese. Honbu is japanese for "Headquarters" or "Head Office" for a system of martial arts.

Honbu first entered a dojo at the age of 9 in 1997.

OUR CLASSES
Our juniors karate class is a fun and playful one-hour session where children learn traditional karate through interactive games.

PROGRAM
Our Advanced Karate Class focuses on karate training, including basics, kata, sparing, self-defence, and physical conditioning.

PROGRAM
We run our Dojo in schools and community centres in and around Durban. Due to a lack of funding, we do not have much training or safety gear but this does not deter our passion for the sport.
